                                                      Hand Coloured Original Antique Engravings
The Art of the miniature watercolorist. The ancient art of the colourist, dates back to medieval times, beginning with illuminators and heraldic art. Before the days of colour printing, engravings would be taken to the colourist’s studio to be artistically hand coloured. From the mid 19th century this art began to disappear. These days only a few trained artists specialise in this highly skilled technique. The end result is a miniature which combines the best of 18th and 19th century engraving, with the art of a portrait watercolour artist.
